Who actually fights like this?
Believe me, Karate,Taekwondo and all those other diciplines, when taught and learned properly, can make u a skilled fighter. The reason u people look at this kid and dismiss Karate/Taekwondo is because we are so used to it being taught to children and we look at professional MMA fighters and say "Oh wow, Karate is crap, its all fake."
People dismiss Karate because of stuff like a Karate chop. Why the hell would ever Karate chop somebody? It doesn’t do anything.
These disciplines weren’t created just for show, they actually have practical and dangerous roots. Just like boxers, u punch/kick a heavy bag all day practicing proper form then a human body will be like goo to ur strikes.
Exactly. If a boxer wants to practice fighting, he’ll do something that’s relavent to fighting as practice.
What does a karate person do? They do a kata? You rarely even see them do something that would make sense in a fight.
But i do agree for the most part, the people who take these martial arts and show off their forms usually learn all their Kata (probably because they want to LOOK like they can fight haha) without actually sparring. Kata are used for discipline and honing body control, sparring is for the practical fight. You need to practice the two in conjunction to become effective. Really a product of American culture embracing these arts for the discipline/showmanship aspect and basically turning these Martial Arts into
TKD sparring is bad. They want u to get points. So wut people do is do suicide moves that would get them killed in real life just to get that point. After that point, the fight is stopped and restarted.
And yeah, the "katas" have incorporated gymnastics and more recently, dancing. Here’s a better
Karate Contest exhibition
