Really?
I got family in Tulsa, OK so every once in a while I get to go to TTT and do a little jiu jitsu… And I know Ben trained with OMA(beau taylor) at Tul$a Top Team for a little bit last summer, and wut OMA said was that Ben Askren’s current goal was for the 08 Olympic team, but then he’d like to do MMA after that.
I still think that’s wut he’ll shoot for, but like u said we’ll see wut happens. I think if he does focus on wrestling for the 08 Oly’s, he’ll get the gold. If he goes MMA, I think with some good jiu jitsu and striking training, he’ll do good. He should train with the Miletich Camp if he decides to do UFC, wrestlers seem to excel with their particular type of training.
But also, I think Alexander Karelin might possibly the most recognized name in wrestling, world wide.
BTW- John Smith is my hero.
Edit: here’s Ben and OMA wrestling for takedowns. It’s funny how easily Askren defends the takedown, even after letting OMA get the full shoot. OMA ain’t not joke either, All-American wrestler and a black belt in jiu jitsu… although he is a natural 135lb’er,
I saw Ben putting in some kimuras at Nation’s Best wrestling camp. It was ugly, the dude is so slick with that biggie.
You may be right about Karelin, but u can’t deny America has produced some dudes who are nails on the mat. I’d say given the funk, Askren’s one of them. He may not be as technically sharp as other guys, but he isn’t scared to go anywhere on the mat to gain some backpoints.
